Waitrose chooses pedal power

Waitrose' new bicycle delivery service

UK supermarket chain, Waitrose, has this week begun trialling a bicycle delivery service for customers who order their groceries online in the beautiful city of Cambridge.

Waitrose staff will be riding hybrid pedal/electric bikes towing a custom trailer attached capable of holding six trays of groceries. Waitrose has gone down this route in an effort to increase the amount of delivery slots on offer while reducing the number of its vans on the road.

I pity the poor staff on the cycles though, as the delivery service will be available to customers living within a maximum of thirty miles from the store. That’s a round trip of 60 miles on a single trip.
