European Masters Track Championships Results

After successfully hosting the World Masters Track Championships for the last twelve years, Manchester Velodrome again played host to the European Masters Track Cycling Championships from 28 July to 2 August, for six days of intense cycling competition.

More than 200 riders competed at the championships with riders coming from France, Italy, Britain, Germany, Ireland and Greece. Age groups at the championships ranged from 30 to 70 plus!

The results of the Championships are:

Day 1
There were seven Gold medals for British riders on the first day of competition of the Championships. Gold medal winners included (British unless otherwise stated) Bruce Croall, Guido Lupo (Italy), Gywn Careless, Christelle Ribault (France), Janet Birkmyer, Ahcen Agga (France), Phillippe Vernet (France), Dave LeGrys, Gerad Louis Robert (France), Geoff Cooke, Peter Smith, and Roland Crayford.

The first day of racing in this years first European event saw one World Best Time set as well when Scot Bruce Croall shattered the 2004 time of American Anthony Galvan of 1.05.564 when riding in the last heat, he posted 1.04.261

Day 2
Day 2 at the Championships saw riders battle it out in the 200m Sprint Time Trial. Great Britain reaped in yet more medals, with Roland Crayford and Brian Dacey making it a GB 1-2 in the Male 70+ years whilst Peter Smith and Barrie Hartley made it a GB 2-3 in the 65-69 Years category. Geoffrey Cooke and Geoff Brandt medalled in the 60-64 Years age group and Ivor Reid and Steve Pulford took to the podium in the 45-49 Years category.

Day 3
Winners on the third day of competition at the Championships were Lee Povey, Anthony Gill, Christelle Ribault (France), Kevin Gill, Gerard Louis Robert (France), Graham Barclay, John Marriner, and Philip Hetzel.

Day 4
The fourth day of the Championships saw four gold medals for British riders, with Steve Cronshaw, Janet Birkmyre, Arthur Doyle and Brian Dacey taking the top spot in their respective races.

Day 5
More medals for Great Britain on the fifth day of the Championships, including gold for Philip Hetzel, James Rutherford and Boyd Roberts.
