On Sunday 21 September, the London Freewheel event will give riders the opportunity to ride along the streets of the capital on roads closed to non-cycle traffic.

Sponsored by Sky Sports, organisers hope to build on the popularity of last year’s ride which attracted over 40,000 riders of all ages and ability. The 12km route will take riders past the Tower of London, Houses of Parliament, London Eye, Trafalgar Square, and Buckingham Palace among other sights. A shorter route will also be available for riders who feel the 12km is too much.

Members of the London Cycling Campaign will be on hand to help less experienced riders, and there’ll be plenty of on-bike entertainment to keep everyone in high spirits along the route.

In announcing this year’s London Freewheel, Mayor of London Boris Johnson said, “There are lots of Londoners who own bikes but aren’t using them regularly, so hopefully this event will remind people what fun it can be.”
