That’s according to a report entitled ‘Towards a Healthier Economy’ published by the Transform Scotland Trust. The report said Scotland’s economy could benefit by up to £4 billion each year if we cycled as much as people in parts of continental Europe.

The study said the economic benefits would partly come from improving people’s health and reducing death rates. It also found that the cycling rate in Scotland lies at around 1% for all distances travelled, compared to 18-27% in Denmark and the Netherlands.

One can’t help but wonder how much the ecomomy would benefit here in England if we all took up cycling.
