Mangel raises his arms but Voeckler, right, gets to the line first.

Laurent Mangel (Team Saur-Sojsun) got caught short today in the Tour of the Mediterranean. At the end of the first 120km stage he celebrated his victory from the five-man breakaway, only to have French champion Thomas Voeckler nudge ahead of him on the line with a bike throw. Voekler landed up taking the stage and the overall leader’s jersey.

It just goes to show that even at the best of times, the pros can get it wrong.
