The new customisable Lake CX401

My friend Martin, from Todays Cyclist, popped around the other day for a cup of coffee and a chat. He’s a great guy and it’s always good to see him. While here he showed me the new 2012 range of Lake Cycling shoes that he had in his bag of goods.

Lake CX401

The first pair he had to show me was the new customisable CX401. These are the top range of shoes available from Lake. As you can see from the picture above and below, these shoes just look awesome. But it doesn’t stop there. Its features include:

  • Custom Fit Carbon (CFC): the pinnacle for cycling shoes Thermaform rear 1/4 alters the dynamics of pedaling. Custom fit for each rider provides heel lock and total foot stability like nothing else.
  • Upper: Klite Kangaroo leather and mesh. Outlast temperature regulating heel & tongue liner. Lateral side abrasion resistant panels.
  • Outsole: Custom Fit Carbon Fiber sole. Men’s regular width available in a 3-hole or Speedplay specific cleat pattern for use without adapters. Replaceable heel strike pad.
  • Closure: Side mounted Push/Pull BOA lacing system with powerzone in the forefoot.

  • Sizes: Men’s regular & wide (EE): 39-48; 50, 39.5-46.5  // Women’s 36-43, 37.5-42.5

BUT, here’s the super cool thing about these shoes. Just like your bike, you can now customise these to suit your individual taste and make sure you stand out form the crowd. Like this fine ‘Proud of being British’ pair:

Customised CX401

With Lakes’ custom progamme, you can change the colours of the leather, the accents and the mesh. The choice of colours you have available are:

  • Leather: pearl white, pearl black, champ red, masters blue, metallic orange, metallic green, champ yellow, silver, and hi-gloss black
  • Accents: white, champ blue, champ red, black, champ yellow, champ green, orange, pink, masters blue
  • Mesh: white, black, silver

The choice is yours so now you can have the only unique pair in the peloton!

The CX401 and full carbon sole with cleat markings

And for those of you that are quite specific how your cleats are positioned, then Lake will make your life so much easier when installing new cleats. It is the only shoe I have come across that has both horizontal and vertical markings to assist with positioning your cleat properly. It helps take the guess work out it.

Does anyone know when and where these will be available for purchase? I’ve written reviews before, ride extensively and would be happy to try them out and review.
